Lyndel Thomas (Victoria  – Australia). Because of my love of chiaroscuro I studied with various respected teachers from the tonal school in Melbourne, Australia, along with my early introduction to this school of painting by my artist father, Harry Thomas. {Meldrum School}
If I have a label it is that of the tonalist painter and I look for the light, mood and atmosphere of the subject. In landscape I favour moody or late afternoon and crepuscular, poetic subjects.  Figures are a favourite source of inspiration and are usually painted in contemplative poses. Of late I have sometimes been adding a companion animal to my figure paintings and I often paint my piglet, Liberty who serves as a symbol of the need for greater rights for all animals. I also like working in the studio with flowers, fruit and various props, particularly my collection of Chinese ginger jars, vases and Japanese prints.
Plein air in the landscape and working directly from the model are great sources of joy and I attend a life drawing group every week. I complete one small finished painting from life every day.
I also like to work with clay and this work usually features the feminine with a symbolic story. I majored in sculpture at the School of Mines, University of Ballarat.
Since participating in the Florence Biennale in 2013 I have been concentrating on exhibiting in Europe – Italy, France, Austria – Scotland and I have exhibited in New York, Tokyo and Morocco. My work has attracted many awards and is held in private and public collections in Australia, Europe, U.S, Canada and India.  At present my work is represented by the Rossocinabro Gallery Rome and Studio Art Carapostol, Venice.
